Trunk or Treat moved to Saturday

All...
Due to the Tropical Storm Warnings predicted for this Friday night (October 26th) from Hurricane Sandy...
The annual Ward Trunk or Treat has been moved to Saturday night (October 27th).

All Sisters... if you have a Visiting Teaching list, please call and let your families know this change in dates.
We want to make sure the word gets out to all. And we hope to see you all there in your scariest costumes.

The night will start at 6:30 pm with Trunk or Treating in the Parking Lot... Decorate you car trunk and be sure to come a little early and back your car up to the sidewalk.

About  7:00 to 7:15 pm we will move inside the building to the Cultural Hall for some Halloween Snacks and the Chili Cook-off.  We also hope to have a few Halloween Games for the children ages 3 to 11.

The event will end about 8:00 pm so that families can get their children home.

   Thank you....

Make a CD of all of your generation's Love Songs.
Take minutes out to dance together.
Take time for each other.  Date each other.

We happened to have one framed in our church library.  Can use the libraries big poster.

We had a basket with "The Family Proclamation" to hand out.
I borrowed some Red Sparkly Shoes from a friend.  So cute!

These are the printouts I used on the board.
    Prints are 24" x 36".
Print at your local Blue Print place.  Approx. $1.80 a printout.
You can email them the file, and then pick it up.

Double Click on the image below, and then download.

We invited all of the sisters in from Primary and Young Women, so we wanted to hand out something
extra special.  We made muffins, and then put these bookmarks in to decorate the muffins.  We decided on no frosting- so the bookmarks could be saved easily.

We then decorated a rolling cart from the kitchen with a cute tablecloth, and arranged the muffins on 3 tier muffin stands with little chocolates also.

Tip:  Bake muffins in non-stick pan, and place in the liner after they have been baked.

We used this image to decorate a few muffins also, and the muffin tier.

    Technology Fireside Links

Tonight's fireside was on how to start using the Personal Video Conferencing for certain meetings, so as we can be with our families more, and have more time to actually live and share the gospel.  Time spent traveling long distances to attend a meeting can be reduced.

    List of all videos available:

These are two of the videos they shared during the fireside:

    Training Video 1

    Training Video 2

We were also given the following list of different technology ways to learn and live the gospel.  A few of these were new me, so I thought I'd share the list.  Enjoy!  - Candi

    170th Relief Society Birthday Video

Compliments of Sister Hawkshaw, with music by Bro. Hawkshaw.

We also had a Cake Decorating Demonstration by Sherline.
Click on the flyer below for tips on decorating cakes.

    Shirlene's Buttercream Frosting Recipe

4 cups confectioners sugar (powdered sugar)
    1 stick of butter
    2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup heavy cream (or milk)

She used 3 batches of frosting to frost the basket cake that you see in the video.

    *  If you keep frosting in the fridge a bit, you'll make nicer flowers.

My wish list to get after watching this demonstration:
Large Scraper.  Frosting seemed to go on really smoothly on the top and sides with this.

Turn-table.  Don't know how I ever frosted a cake without one.  After watching her, it was amazing!  It turns around as you frost the cake, make little decorations, whatever.

Food Coloring.  Stick a toothpick in a few times to your color, and voila!

Many cool frosting tips, as well as the famous nail, used for making flowers.
In my case you need many so that when they go through the sink disposal, you can use a different one that is similar.  :)

Disposable frosting bags.  Totally worth it!

A butter knife is not going to do a good job.  You need a spatula without the teeth a knife has.

A really big tip.  She used this to frost the cake very quickly, and then the scraper (1st pix) to flatten it out.  It also can make cupcakes look cute very quickly, as well as large borders.

Cake board.  She butter creamed the cake, and then after it was frosted, she transfered it onto a cake board (made from smooth cardboard.)

As always... isn't every hobby expensive!
Good thing there are 40% off coupons at Michaels!

And, now we see why this is my WISH list.
Now, I need to wish for a bigger kitchen to store them in.  ;)

Big thank you to everyone who participated in our 170th Relief Society Birthday Celebration!

Especially Sandy- for putting it all together, Sherline for teaching our class, Chris for filming it, and Portia for our tribute to Relief Society.  Thanks to our note taker too.  I already forgot so much of what Shirlene did, which I knew would happen.  Good thing we have a video!
